The Long County Blue Tide baseball team was honored recently with 8 players being named to the all-Region 3-AAA team. During the team’s end-of-season awards banquet May 20, the players were awarded with their all-region honors.
Junior catcher/pitcher Kenny Pickens and seniors Roderick Randall and Jamison Thomas were all named to the all-region first team. All three players played a big role in the team making the state playoffs for the seventh year in a row.
All three were key at the plate with Pickens and Thomas both hitting multiple home runs on the season. They all played big roles in the field as well with Pickens playing majority of the season behind the plate while Thomas and Randall played in the outfield.
On the second team were senior pitchers and infielders Landon Runyon and Shannon Filkins. The two seniors were the number 1 and 2 pitchers after junior Nick Sizemore went down with an injury early in the year.
Because of that injury, Runyon and Filkins both had to play big roles in the infield as well. Filkins was the main second baseman while Runyon played second and third when not on the mound.
Senior Elijah Lester and juniors Creighton Rogers and Peyton Batt were all given honorable mention for their work during the season.
Three of the eight players named to the all-region teams will return for the 2025 season.
