On March 23, the Blue Tide lost a tough game 3-2 to Brantley County. Heron pitchers Travis Manning and Seth Hendrix were on the mark, holding the Ludowici team to a single run. However, the Tide catcher Brandon McManus slammed a double and brought in a single RBI.

Long County senior Bryan Wingate got the tough-luck loss for the Tide, even though he pitched a solid game.

"We are going to have to go back to basics with our hitting," Long County coach Brian Thomas said. "We just are not making enough good contact right now. But I feel certain that our kids will be willing to put in the time and effort to get our offense back on track."

The loss dropped the Tide’s overall record to 5-6 and their Region 2-AA mark to 1-4. Tonight, the Blue Tide travel to Reidsville where they will tangle with the Battle Creek Warriors of Tattnall County, a region opponent.

The Warriors are coming off a big 20-9 win over the Benedictine Cadets, so they will be looking to keep up their winning ways. On paper, the Tattnall County team is averaging 7 runs a game compared with the Blue Tide’s 6 a night. On defense, the Tide is allowing 4.5 runs a game, compared with the Warrior’s 6.4.

The last two times the team met, Long County won, 15-4 and 12-9.

Tonight’s game is important to both squads, since they’re near the end of the region standings. Currently, the top four teams in Region 2-AA are Appling County (5-1, 9-3 overall), Brantley County (4-2, 6-4 overall), Jeff Davis (4-2, 6-5 overall) and Pierce County (4-2, 5-7 overall).

The next five teams are Benedictine (3-2, 4-5 overall), McIntosh County (3-3, 7-5 overall), Tattnall County (2-4, 5-6 overall), Long County (1-4, 5-6 overall) and Charlton County (0-6, 4-8 overall).

Tonight’s game in Tattnall County is at 6.
