The Long County Blue Tide basketball teams have had great runs through the 2025-26 season with the girls finding success under first-year head coach Stevie Harrison and the boys winning the regular season region championship under second-year head coach Ricky Rivera.
The all-Region 3-AAA teams were revealed, with the girls placing four on the teams and the boys placing seven, including the co-offensive Player of the Year.
For the girls, junior Zae Buckner was named to the first team after leading the team in scoring for the season with just over 14 points per game. Senior Amya Edwards was second in scoring for the Tide and she was named to the second team.
Senior Amire Saunders and sophomore Za’led Cullars were given honorable mention.
For the boys, they had a litany of awards. Junior Jy’son Mallard was named co-offensive player of the year after leading the team in scoring with just over 15 points per game while adding 4.2 rebounds per game.
Rivera was also named co-coach of the year along with Beach’s Simon Heyward. Rivera took the team from 11-14 record last season where the team missed the state playoffs for the first time in seven years to a now 21-5 record and the regular season region title.
The Tide had their second-best regular season record in over 20 years as they finished 20-5. The only time the team has had a better regular season record was in the 2019-20 season when they finished 21-4, won the region championship and advanced to the Elite Eight, where they fell just two points shy of advancing to the Final Four for the first time since 1961.
Making the first team for the Blue Tide were seniors Zyi Holt and Ja’mere Martin. Holt was second on the team with 13.5 points per game and shooting 51 percent from the field.
Martin was third on the team with 12.8 points per game and shot 37 percent from 3-point range.
Junior Kelvin Hayes Jr. and senior Jonathan Talbert made the second team and junior James Jackson and senior Jeremy Rollins were named honorable mention.
