The Long County Blue Tide cross country team hosted 12 schools on Saturday, October 25 in the 2025 Coastal Area Region 5K. While this was a meet that included schools from across Southeast Georgia, it also served as the Region 3-AAA championship.
The Blue Tide finished third for both the boys and girls in the region meet with two runners finishing in the top six as individuals.
Tide seniors Macey Higgason and Trevor Kuchar have been the clear frontrunners for the Tide throughout the 2025 season. On Saturday, they both finished in the top 12 for the overall standings and both finished in the top six for the region, receiving medals. Higgason finished 12th overall and sixth in the region with a time of 21:58.14. This is her fourth consecutive year receiving a medal at the region meet.
Kuchar not only finished as a medalist for the region, he also placed fifth overall. His time of 18:04.00 was good enough to land him on the winner’s stand with a third place finish in Region 3-AAA.
As a whole, the girls scored 59 points and finished third in the region behind Southeast Bulloch and region champion Islands.
The boys missed out on being in the top two for the first time in three years as they also finished third with 70 points. They finished behind Calvary Day and region champion Southeast Bulloch.
The season is not over for the Blue Tide, however, as they will host teams from regions 1, 2, 3, and 4 for the AAA state sectionals on Saturday, November 1.
The top seven teams will then advance to the state championship November 7-8 in Carrollton.
