Tide soccer teams honor seniors at final home game

March 28 was Senior Night at Long County High School as the soccer teams ended the 2017 home schedule.

The Lady Tide honored Alexis Marrero, Charlene Percell, Amie Poindexter, Elexxus Wrighton and Kylee Proffitt. The Blue Tide honored Brett Blake, Alex Duenes, Damian Jones, Aron Nevarez, Luis Perez, Michel Tepet and Cayetano Sanchez Jr.

Marrero, escorted by her mother, Valerie Marrero, is a member of HOSA and the Beta Club. After graduation she plans to attend Georgia Southern University to pursue a career in trauma surgery.

Percell, escorted by her father, Charles Percell, has played soccer two years. She plans on pursuing a medical career in the Air Force.

Poindexter, escorted by her parents, Daniel and Candy Poindexter, has played for four years and is a member of the National Honor Society. She hopes to attend college and go into pediatrics.

Proffitt, escorted by her uncle and grandfather, Rosco and Johnny Proffitt, has played for four years and is a member of the Beta Club and Junior Chamber of Commerce. She plans to attend Armstrong State University to major in biology.

Wrighton, escorted by her mother and sister, Toni and Jazmyn Wrighton, has played soccer for three years. She also plays basketball, runs track and is in the marching band. She plans on becoming a nurse.

Blake was escorted by his mother Mary Blake and is a first year player. After graduation, Blake plans to attend college and hopes to become a trauma surgeon.

Duenes, escorted by his mother Lilly Duenes, has played four years. He plans to attend Ogeechee Technical College.

Jones, escorted by Isa Perez, has been on the soccer team four years and is a member of the band. He plans to attend Georgia State.

Nevarez, escorted by his mother Magda Marquez, has played for three years and is on the football team. He plans to become a certified welder.

Perez, escorted by his mother Isaura Perez, has played soccer for four years and is a member of the Future Business Leaders of America. He plans to join the Navy.

Tepet, escorted by his mother Maria Baltazar, is a first year player. He plans on becoming a mechanic.

Sanchez, escorted by his parents Virginia and Cayetano Sanchez Sr., has played four years and is on the yearbook staff. He hopes to become an aerospace engineer.

Lady Tide wrestling duals
The Lady Tide wrestlers celebrate with Aliana Morales after her deciding pinfall victory in the final match of the night. Morales won her match at 145 pounds just 22 seconds into the first round. The win propelled the Long County girls wrestling team into the state duals finals at Lumpkin County High School.
The Long County Lady Blue Tide wrestling team has been on the cusp of breaking through the last few seasons and the 2024-25 season is shaping up to be a historic one.
