Two weeks ago, the Lady Blue Tide softball team lost handily to the Camden County Wildcats. They looked to get some revenge when they welcomed in the Wildcats on Wednesday, September 4.

The Lady Tide came up just short as the game went to the ninth inning before the Lady Tide fell 5-2.

Casey Lust’s day got off to a rocky start as she walked two before a double brought home a run and made the score 1-0. The Tide came up to bat but went in order as they went into the second inning down one.

Lust got back on track as she struck out two in the second inning. Ainsley Anderson singled before Lust went down herself.

Lana Lewis hit a hard grounder to third but was thrown out at first. Anderson attempted to advance to third but was caught as her team trailed 1-0 going into the third.

Lust got another strikeout in the top of the third. In the bottom half, Lean Denmark walked and Addison Moss was hit by a pitch before Jersi Lester singled to load the bases with one out. Ciara O’Brien tied the score with a single to left field.

The Wildcats loaded the bases with one out in the fourth but the Lady Tide worked their way out of the jam to keep the game tied.

In the fifth, Lust allowed two hits, one a double to centerfield to bring home a run and make the score 2-1 for the Wildcats. That score held into the bottom of the seventh inning, but not before some drama along the way.

Lust threw two more strikeouts in the sixth before back-to-back errors put runners on first and third in the bottom of the inning for the Tide. However, the Tide could not take advantage as they went into the final inning down 2-1.

In the bottom of the 7th with two outs, Lester doubled before Miley Maulden singled. There was some confusion in the circle for the Wildcats and the play had not been called dead.

This allowed Lester to score from third and Maulden to get to second. O’Brien struck out but reached on a dropped third strike, bringing Anderson back up to the plate with two outs and one on first and third.

She popped up to right field to end the inning with the score tied 2-2 and take the game into the eighth inning, the first extra innings game for the Lady Tide this season.

Lust threw her sixth strikeout of the day in the eighth as she came up to the plate in the bottom of the inning. Despite Denmark’s single, with two outs on the board it was just too little for the Tide.

In the ninth inning, the Wildcats finally opened their offense up, getting three hits and loading the bases with no outs.

Back to back sacrifice flies to centerfield put them up 4-2 and a single to center made the score 5-2 going into the bottom of the ninth.

Maulden and O’Brien both reached on errors with two outs on the board, but the Tide could not cut into the Wildcats’ lead as they fell 5-2.

With the loss, they fall to 4-7 on the year.
