The Long County Blue Tide flag football team had a historic run in their inaugural season last year and look to improve on that in the 2022 season. They will be led by a reigning player of the year in sophomore quarterback Kyleigh Sizemore.
Sizemore was one of several athletes named a 912 Sports Magazine player of the year during a ceremony streamed live on the magazine’s Facebook page Thursday, April 28. Every other sport was divided by “Large Schools” and “Small Schools” but, with the sport only just gaining popularity throughout the state, flag football was not.
The sophomore star at one point had the best touchdown to interception ratio in the nation with 28 touchdowns and no interceptions. She finished the season with 33 touchdowns and four interceptions.
Sizemore led the Lady Tide to a 10-2 record, an area runner-up trophy, and an appearance in the A-4A state quarterfinals, falling to St. Anne Pacelli 14-7. She said it “feels great” to be named player of the year, but credits the people around her for her and her team’s success.
“My coaches and teammates really help me when I am down and not doing my best,” Sizemore said. “I could not do this without them.”
The Lady Tide will lose just three seniors to graduation and return a large majority of their starting offense and defense. Sizemore knows that this award just gives her “a goal” to go after next year.
“...there is now nothing to do but put in work and improve,” Sizemore said. “We just have to go out and get better.”
The Lady Tide flag football team has been busy this offseason with the team participating in the Atlanta Falcons Flag clinic two weeks ago and standing out as one of the most eager and hard working teams.
