Russell lifted a combined 770 pounds. He parallel squatted 355, bench pressed 210 and power cleaned 205.
At the area championships, the Tigers placed sixth out of 15 schools.
Weightlifting coach Aaron Mock said the lifters have been working hard in the weight room and he looks forward to them competing again next year.
Twenty-four students participated in the area meet, with several setting personal bests.
Mock was particularly delighted with the performance of freshmen Sheldon Barnes and Darvean Herron, who competed in the 181-190 pound class. Barnes lifted a combined 765 and Herron lifted a combined 725.
