Fresh off a home-sweep against McIntosh County Academy, Bradwell Institute’s track teams took second in the 18-team Camden Relays on Saturday in Kingsland.
Camden County took first for the girls, while Ware County took first for the boys
Bradwell’s girls placed in the top six in 10 events, while the boys placed in the top 6 in nine events.
Shapale Snowden tied two other jumpers in the high jump, clearing 4-feet, 8-inches. Meanwhile, Larry Henry continued his dominance in the boys’ high jump with a 6-foot, 2-inch jump. Antonio Allen finished fifth, soaring 5-feet, 10-inches.
Vontavious Pennyman outsprinted the competition in the 200, finishing the race in 22.2 seconds. Richard Hobbs won the 300 hurdles, finishing in 40.24 seconds.
Unfortunately, Hobbs was unable to compete later in the meet because he pulled his hamstring after stepping into a hole in the track. However, Bradwell coach Emmett Watkins is confident that one of his best athletes will quickly return to the track.
Overall, Watkins was pleased with his Tigers’ performance.
“I’m impressed with how we ran. We just have to stay healthy,” he said. “I want us to improve on our times and we will get better as we go.”
