Tigers bounce back with wins at Brunswick tournament

The Bradwell Institute boys basketball team rebounded from its first two losses on the season with a pair of close wins.

The Tigers edged the Roswell Hornets 65-61 on Saturday and followed that with a 59-50 win over Camden County in Brunswick High’s Hoopin’ at the High tournament.

The Tigers, 9-2, trailed the Hornets 22-10 after the first quarter but rallied to cut the margin to 34-33 at halftime.

Zi’on Thomas led all scorers with 24 points, notching a double-double with 10 rebounds, and Eli Hale added 11 points. Jaylin Sweat and Chris Perry had eight points each. Hale also recorded six rebounds, five assists and four steals.

Trey Phillips led Roswell with 23 points, and Chase Jackson chipped in 18 points.

The Tigers pulled away late from the Wildcats, as Keon Grant scored a game-high 20 points, connecting on six of eight shots from 3-point range. Sweat had 14 points and Perry added 12 while Thomas finished with nine points. Thomas pulled down 11 rebounds, while Grant and Sweat had seven boards each. Hale had five assists and Grant dished our four assists.

Jermaine Mack and Jeremiah Reeder each had 11 points for the Wildcats.

Bradwell finished its tournament action Tuesday afternoon against Griffin, ranked No. 8 in Class AAAA, and will return to the court Saturday at Liberty County High School against the host Panthers. Bradwell hosts Glynn Academy on January 6 in the Region 1-AAAAA opener.
