On Saturday, the Bradwell Tigers track team competed in Camden County at the 39th annual Dana Shavalier Invitational, where the boys finished second and the girls’ squad, although relatively small, took third place.
Coach DeAndre Davis said the boys ended with 109 points and the girls finished with 90.
"The elite are the elite for a reason," Davis said about his boys who competed without senior standout Shaquille Russell.
Russell’s previous meet points however helped propel the boys to second place.
The coach said it has been three years since the boys’ squad brought back a trophy from the invitational.
"We are proud of the kids’ success," the coach said. "Everyone played their role in bringing the second place trophy back to Bradwell."
The coach added the girls did exceptionally well, considering some participants were still playing in the basketball team’s Elite Eight tournament.
"All of their hard work really paid off," Davis said about their third place finish. "The girls were very excited after winning the trophy."
The Tiger track squads competed in Brunswick yesterday, facing Brunswick High and Glynn Academy.
The Courier will bring you the results as they become available.
