Bradwell Institute’s tennis team is serving success and fun this season. This is the first time the Tigers have a complete boys and girls team. Both have winning records.
Coach Janet Reddick believes they will be in good form when the Region 3-AAAAA tournament rolls around on April 17-18.
“We are playing really well right now,” she said. “The program is on the upswing with the freshmen coming up nice and strong.”
The boys are led by senior Justin Monroe, who won his last two matches by considerable margins.
“Everybody is getting better everyday,” he said. “We’re looking to win more and the program is progressing.”
Monroe started playing tennis two years ago and said he wants to play as long as he can run.
He credits his success to constantly practicing and studying the game.
The girls are led by senior Jenny Tart, who started last year.
“Tennis is a relaxing sport,” she said. “I play it to get better and I hope it’s something I can do as I get older.”
Tart is constantly improving her game and is expected to do well in the region tournament.
Vincent Wimbush and Zach Mudd compose the No. 1 boys’ doubles team, while Konica Willis and Brandi Huerd compose the No. 1 girls’ doubles team.
Reddick is impressed with four newcomers to the game.
Christopher Carlson, John Howard, Sierra Blackshear and Shance Myrick have all improved their games since the beginning of the season.
Elio Tapper and John Tapper also have contributed to the team’s success. Elio is the No. 2 player and John is the No. 3 player.
“They are nice kids and this is a nice group,” Reddick said. “They are fun to be around.”
