Savannah State University’s junior designated hitter Trey Sikes was named to the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference 2014 All-Conference Baseball Team, according to a press release issued by meacsports.com.Sikes, a former Liberty County High School player, led the conference in RBIs with 51, tied for the lead in doubles with 15 and topped the conference in homeruns with 10.Sikes has been invited to play in the Cape Cod Summer league, his father Charles Sikes said. His mother, Kathy Sikes, said he’ll leave at the end of the month.“His mother Kathy and I are very proud of his accomplishments. He has put in a lot of hard work,” Charles Sikes said.Teammate and Panther alumni Aaron Hoffer, a senior catcher at SSU, earned MEAC All-Academic honors.

The Long County wrestling team celebrates its region championship at Calvary Day School.
The Long County Blue Tide wrestling team made history this past weekend when both the boys and girls teams qualified for the state championship duals meet. The girls won the Division 2 Area 1 championship on Friday, January 10 and the boys won the Region 3-AAA championship on Saturday, January 11.
