MORROW - The Long County Blue Tide wrestling team has made a name for themselves over the last few years and this year has been no different for the team. On Thursday, February 12, seven wrestlers competed at the AAA boys state traditional tournament with two making history for the Tide.
In 2025, Andre Mills became the first Tide wrestler to finish on the podium as he placed third in the 132 pound weight class at the state traditional tournament. In 2026, the Tide made history again, this time with two wrestlers making the podium.
Junior Casey Dean became the first Tide wrestler to advance to the winner’s bracket semifinals, where he lost to Jefferson’s Ty Murray. The result, though, guaranteed him a spot on the podium.
After winning by pin in the consolation semis, he lost by pin to Gilmer County’s Manuel Velasquez in the third period of the consolation finals, finishing in fourth place.
Freshman Roman Stewart- Evans took fifth place at 106 pounds, avenging a loss in the winner’s bracket in that match. Stewart- Evans lost to Lumpkin County’s Jude Goss in the second round and won by pins in his first two consolation bracket matches.
After a tech fall loss in the consolation semifinals, he beat Goss by major decision, 15-6, in the fifthplace match.
