The We Run It AAU summer track team, coached by Nathan Mims, completed its summer circuit and placed well at the final meets.
Mims said four of his athletes competed July 8-11 in the USATF Region III Championship in Greensboro, N.C.
He said Jana Jones, who competed in the young women division, placed fifth in discus with a throw of 112 feet, 9 inches. She placed sixth in shot put, clearing 31 feet, 5.25 inches.
In fact, the coach said five of his athletes earned bids to nationals.
Tiana Johnson earned a spot when she finished third in the 800-meter run for the midget division. Gadson set a personal record in the shot put, taking first place and earning a bid to national in the intermediate class. Anthony Dabson took first place in the 400-meter dash and third place in the 200-meter dash to earn a spot at the national meet in the young men’s division.
Tavoris Lewis will compete at nationals after taking first place in the long jump with a jump of 23 feet, 7 inches.
"He scratched on a jump that would have ranked him fourth in the nation," Mims said of Lewis’ scratched jump that measured 24 feet, 10 inches. "And that was his first time doing the long jump. He also placed second in the 100-meter and 200-meter dash, sending him to California."
