The Long County High School girls’ basketball team had its awards banquet March 12 at the Western Sizzlin in Jesup.
For the varsity team, Elexxus Wrighton was named the team’s most-valuable player, Samira Chapman took home the torchbearer award, KeKe Calhoun claimed the high academic award, and Malaka Elix received the coaches award.
Other varsity players taking home team honors included Mya Howard who was named the defensive player of the year; Katie Estill, who was the offensive player of the year; and Caitlin Wingate who won the highest free-throw percentage award.
In junior-varsity honors, Faith Porter received the hustle award, Ravae Rose got the defensive player of the year, and to Trinity Hall received the offensive player of the year and high-academic awards.
Other players who were recognized for receiving either a player’s certificate or a varsity letter included Keshawndra Cooper, Anazha Kincaid, Patra London, Shontesia Alexander, Tattayna Smiley, Kadejah Jones, Ya Wright, Jada Smith and Ja’Kayla Porter.
