The Liberty County Armed Services YMCA swim program has had its first swim team in over 7 years represented at a competition.

Coach Aaron Gregory took his "YMCA Pirates" team to Waycross on March 12.

The Pirates swam to one first, three seconds and four third place finishes at the swim meet.

The Liberty County YMCA reestablished its team in the beginning of the school year and has focused on youth development while learning technique, building confidence and team.

There are a total of 12 team members. Gregory said they performed well after some initial pre-meet jiters.

"These athletes were very nervous about competing," he said. "For some it was their first competition ever and others it was nerves about being in front of people. However, once they hit the water they became motivated, focused and energized like a speedboat! I am so proud of all of them and we are looking forward to our next competition."
