Best things: Keep kids busy, active

Wondering how to keep your kids busy and out of the house this summer? Jimmy Martin, director of the Liberty County Recreation Department, offers his top five picks for rec department activities.

1. Open swim at the Liberty Independent Troop Park pool. Every day from 2 p.m. to 6 p.m., Liberty County youth can cool off at the pool. Admission is $2 per person.

2. Swim lessons. Four two-week sessions are offered this summer for youth ages 4 and up; lessons are 50 minutes each day, Monday-Thursday. Lessons cost $25 per student.

3. Soccer camp. Make the goal at one of two soccer camps for youth ages 5-17. James A. Brown Park is the site for soccer camp June 14-17 and July 6-9. Cost is $30 per person.

4. Basketball camp. Youth ages 7 to 17 can work on shooting, dunking and passing July 12-15 at Shuman Recreation Center for $25 per person.

5. Day Camp. For youth ages 6-13, day camp is offered at Shuman Recreation Center Monday-Friday, from May 21-July. Cost is $75 a week per person.
