Patricia Sippel was elected Woman of the Year at St. Stephen’s Catholic Church on Oct. 21. A luncheon was hosted at Western Sizzlin’ after church to celebrate Sippel’s accomplishment. She has been a member of St. Stephen’s for about 11 years.

Baker completes basic training
James Rafael Baker, a 2005 graduate of Bradwell Institute, has completed his basic training at Fort Lackland Air Force Base in San Antonio, Texas. His parents are Rosemary D. Michael of Hinesville and James Mallett of Greenwood, Miss.

Jones graduates basic training
Army Pfc. Laniece R. Jones has graduated from basic combat training at Fort Jackson, Columbia, S.C.
During the nine weeks of training, the soldier studied the Army mission, history, tradition and core values, physical fitness, and received instruction and practice in basic combat skills, military weapons, chemical warfare and bayonet training, drill and ceremony, marching, rifle marksmanship, armed and unarmed combat, map reading, field tactics, military courtesy, military justice system, basic first aid, foot marches, and field training exercises.
She is the daughter of Jean Long and granddaughter of Carrie Frazier, both of Midway.
Jones is a 2007 graduate of Liberty County High School, Hinesville.

Cardona graduates basic training
Air Force Airman 1st Class Janice M. Cardona has graduated from basic military training at Lackland Air Force Base, San Antonio, Texas.
During the six weeks of training, the airman studied the Air Force mission, organization, and military customs and courtesies; performed drill and ceremony marches, and received physical training, rifle marksmanship, field training exercises, and special training in human relations.
In addition, airmen who complete basic training earn credits toward an associate degree through the Community College of the Air Force.
Cardona earned distinction as an honor graduate.
She is the daughter of David and Mayra Cardona of Hinesville.
Cardona is a 2004 graduate of Liberty County High School.

Baldwin completes basic training
Marine Corps Pfc. Steven R. Baldwin, a 2003 graduate of Liberty County High School recently completed basic training at Marine Corps Recruit Depot, Parris Island, S.C. and was meritoriously promoted to his current rank.
Baldwin successfully completed 12 weeks of training designed to challenge new Marine recruits both physically and mentally.
Baldwin and fellow recruits began their training at 5 a. m., by running three miles and performing calisthenics. In addition to the physical conditioning program, Baldwin spent numerous hours in classroom and field assignments that included learning first aid, uniform regulations, combat water survival, marksmanship, hand-to-hand combat and assorted weapons training. They performed close order drill and operated as a small infantry unit during field training.
Baldwin and other recruits also received instruction on the Marine Corps’ core values - honor, courage and commitment, and what the words mean in guiding personal and professional conduct.
Baldwin and fellow recruits ended the training phase with The Crucible, a 54-hour team effort, problem solving evolution which culminated with an emotional ceremony in which the recruits were presented the Marine Corps Emblem, and were addressed as “Marines” for the first time since boot camp began.

McGhee graduates basic training
Army Reserve Pfc. Sylvester L. McGhee has graduated from basic combat training at Fort Jackson, Columbia, S.C.

McGhee is a 2007 graduate of Liberty County High School, Hinesville.
