Army Staff Sgt. Jason E. Smith of Fort Stewart was part of a support team made up of soldiers from throughout the Army for the 2010 U.S. Army All-American Bowl. The Army sponsored the nationally televised football game Jan. 9 at the Alamodome in San Antonio, Texas.
It was the Army’s 10th year sponsoring the high school all-star game that pits the best players in the nation against each other in an East vs. West contest. In this year's match-up, the West team outscored the East team, 30-14.
The soldier support team helped coordinate the game, provided media coordination, took care of hotel accommodations and organized pre-game activities.
Smith, a tank commander with 13 years of military service, is assigned to Headquarters, 3rd Battalion, 69th Armor Battalion at Fort Stewart.
He is the son of Alfred J. and Pearl M. Smith of Chiefland, Fla.
Smith’s wife, Carolyn, is the daughter of Phillip and Elizabeth Bailey of Hinesville.
The sergeant graduated in 1988 from Chiefland High School in Florida and received an associate's degree in 1998 from ITT Technical College in Nashville, Tenn.
