LUDOWICI — Richard Mansel has been writing all of his life. The 44-year-old preacher says he loves to write.
“Writing has always been a love of mine, it’s
all I have ever wanted to do,” the pastor of the Church of Christ at Allenhurst said.
On Feb. 3, Mansel had his first book, “The Most Important Question,” released.
According to the author, the book focuses on how a person can become a Christian, and how they can know that they are saved.
“It’s kind of a study guide on how to become a Christian, it doesn’t just tell people what to do, but it also tells them why they should do it. It gives them a better understanding of what being a Christian is all about.”
On the day Forthright Press released the book, Mansel traveled to Freed-Hardeman University in Henderson, Tenn., for a book signing.
According to Mansel, the feedback, from those who have read the book, has been positive.
“Everything people tell me is good. A lot of them are buying the book for loved ones, and giving it to them so that they can know how to be saved.”
Bill Bagents, vice president of academic affairs and dean at Heritage University, said the book is “purposefully brief, well-considered, biblical to the core, showing great respect for God’s Word.”
Though “The Most Important Question” is Mansel’s first book, it is one of his many writings.
According to the preacher, he has written hundreds of articles and still writes every week.  He is currently the managing editor at Forthright Magazine, and is putting together a second book.
“This second book is based on the Book of Ephesians and focuses on the lessons we can take from it,” Mansel said.
He says much of the book will be based on more than 40 sermons that he has given during his 14 years as a preacher.
Before coming to the Church of Christ at Allenhurst three years ago, Mansel had been pastor at the Highway 30 Church of Christ in Guyton.
Mansel is married and he and his wife, Deirdre, have two daughters who attend Long County High School. Sarah, 15, is a sophomore and Chelsea, 17, is a senior.
Mansel says that when his second book is completed, he and his wife hope to write a Christian novel together.
“I’m privileged to have the opportunity to share the gospel with people and to bring the glory to God,” the preacher said.
You can buy Mansel’s book by sending a check or money order for $9.90 (cost of book $6.95 plus S&H of $2.95) to Forthright Press LLC, 607 Devine Street, Wiona, MS 38967.
