John and Gladys Abbott of Midway celebrated their golden wedding anniversary June 9.
The former Gladys Lee Cook and John Walter Abbott Sr. are originally from Lithonia and were married June 9, 1957 in Dawsonville.
The couple moved to Savannah in 1965 and to Liberty County in 1970.
John Abbott has worked in the transportation industry with The Benton Co., Brown Trucking and Gateway Transport. He founded the ABBCO Trucking Co. in 1980 before his retirement in 1986.
Gladys Abbott has worked in both floral and cake design. She is an accomplished seamstress and gardener, but considers the title “homemaker” her number one job.
Their children are Rita Dykes and husband Don Dykes of Fleming, John Walter Abbott Sr. and Penny Hilton of Richmond Hill.
The couple has four grandchildren: Leah (Jonathan) Richardson and Ashley (Adam) McCullough, all of Las Vegas, Nev.; Zach Dykes of Fleming and Brittny Hilton of Richmond Hill.
Matthew David Richardson of Las Vegas is their great-grandson.
A celebration was hosted June 9 at the Whistle Stop Café in Juliette.
