TYBEE ISLAND, Ga. – Fodor’s recently honored Tybee Island, Ga., an island paradise located just east of historic Savannah, as one of eight “Best Family Beaches on the East Coast.”

This leading travel guide and web site recognized Tybee Island for its enduring family-friendly appeal. Tybee is the only Georgia beach included on the prestigious Fodor’s list.

“Just five miles long by three miles wide, Tybee Island offers a laid-back family-friendly beach just 15 minutes east of historic Savannah,” the article raves. “The main draw is soft sand and tide pools to explore, but Tybee Island is also home to forts, museums, a historic lighthouse complex and the Marine Science Center.”

Fodor’s describes Tybee Island as the kind of place where “kids can ride bikes to a local ice cream parlor, and families will enjoy North Beach, which is less crowded than the popular South Beach.” With a variety of kid-friendly activities and a range of vacation rentals that are perfect for family getaways, Tybee Island attracts families year-round.

The Fodor’s honor comes just weeks after Southern Living honored Tybee Island as one of America’s “Perfect Little Beach Towns.” Parents magazine has also included Tybee on its annual list of the “Best Beaches for Families.”

“Tybee Island is an ideal beach destination for families,” said Amy Gaster, president of the Tybee Island Tourism Council. “The island features beautiful sandy beaches, fresh seafood, great places to stay, warm Southern hospitality and a wide range of activities, from biking to paddle boarding. We’re honored to be recognized by Fodor’s for our family-friendly appeal.”
