Furlough shortening some hours

Effective next week, two of the Community Recreation Division activities at Fort Stewart will close one day a week because of furlough days.

The Hays Library will close on Fridays and Pass and Permit will close on Tuesdays.

 

Golf scramble

Register by July 10 for the Hunter Garrison Commander’s Golf Scramble at Hunter Golf Course on July 12. Play will begin at 1 p.m.

The $40, per-person entry fee includes greens and cart fees, range balls and a light lunch.

Indoor triathlon

Men and women are invited to compete in Newman Fitness Center’s first Mini Indoor Triathlon July 22-24. The triathlon on Huner will be July 22-26 in Tominac Fitness Center.

The contests are free and the top contestants win prizes.

Events will be 10 minutes for swimming and running, plus 20 minutes on a stationary bike. It's open to all military ID cardholders ages 17 and older.

Canoochee River trip

Relax and enjoy a float down South Georgia’s scenic Canoochee River on July 20.

Life vest, boats and paddles provided. Bring your camera and lunch for a picnic on a sandbar or shaded area.

The trip will be from 8 a.m.-4 p.m. Register by July 18 at Holbrook Outdoor Recreation Center, 435-8205.  The cost is $20 per person.

Lifeguards will be on the trip. A parent or guardian must accompany those younger than 16.

Ladies on Links

Register by July 19 for a free clinic for women July 20 from 9-11 a.m. at Hunter Golf Course.

The clinic covers all aspects of golf, including rules, etiquette and swing and putting mechanics.

Back-to-School Fair

A Back-to-School Fair, 10 a.m.-2 p.m. July 24 at Club Stewart, is an opportunity to talk to DoDEA, local public, private, post secondary school and home schooling representatives.

There is no charge.

On- and off-post child and family agencies provide information, including after school care options. See what Fort Stewart Exchange has to offer in school uniforms and youth fashions.

School registration day

Register your military school age family member for 2013-14 in Liberty County School Year on July 25, 9 a.m.-3 p.m.

The day is to ease military family transition into the school system. All Liberty County schools will register students, give school and district information, assign classes, and answer school-related questions.

Documents needed are birth certificate, Social Security card, immunization records, medical screening, proof of residence, and previous report card/school transcripts.

Golf scramble

A Garrison Commander’s Golf Scramble will begin at 1 p.m. July 26 at Taylors Creek Golf Course. Participants are asked to register by July 24.

Play will be limited to the first 25 four-person teams. The cost is $35 per soldier, retiree, Army civilian and Taylors Creek or Hunter Golf Course member. The price is $45 per civilian guest.

Range shooting

Soldiers, retirees, Army civilians and guests can to sight-in large caliber weapons July 27 from 8:30 a.m.-2 p.m. at Red Cloud Range Complex-Echo.

Bring your rifles or muzzle loaders of any caliber, no pistols or shotguns. The cost is $10 per two-hour block/person. For details, call 435-8061 or 767-4316.

 

All-Army Ten-Miler

Represent the 3rd Infantry Division in the Army Ten-Miler in Washington, D.C., Oct. 20 by being one of the top three men or women finishers in a qualifier race at Donovan Field, Fort Stewart.

Only active duty may qualify, but family members are welcome to participate.

The qualifier begins at 5 a.m. Aug. 17. Runners can register from 4-4:45 a.m. at Donovan, or call the Sports Office, 767-8238, to sign up in advance.
