Subway Restaurants of Savannah will participate in its first day-long food drive, “Feed A Friend,” Thursday to benefit local food pantries.
Customers who bring in a can of food or any other nonperishable food item and buy a regular 6-inch sandwich will receive a regular 6-inch sub of equal or lesser price free. The group’s goal is to collect 5,000 pounds of nonperishable food.
“Being able to give back to the area in this manner, and help those in need, enables us to feed many more people than we would on any given day,” said Subway Restaurants of Savannah board Chairman John Remegi.
Participating counties include Liberty, Long, Bryan, Appling, Bacon, Beaufort, Bulloch, Candler, Chatham, Clay, Effingham, Evans, Hampton, Jasper, Jeff Davis, Knox, McIntosh, Montgomery, Screven, Tattnall, Toombs, Treutlen and Wayne.
