Stewart Back-to-School Fair Thursday
Community activities also in spotlight
CAIR fair

CAIR and back-to-school fairs, coming to Fort Stewart on Thursday, will provide one-stop opportunities for soldiers and families to learn more about the communities and schools surrounding the posts.
The CAIR — community, activities, information and registration — and back-to-school fairs combine what once were separate events: the community showcase and travel show and the education fair.
At this year’s events, representatives from churches, clubs, recreational activities, businesses, nonprofits and educational institutions will meet, greet and tell soldiers and family members about themselves, said Susan Chipple, the director of outdoor recreation and leisure services.
Sales will not be permitted, but vendors are welcome to distribute information, give away product samples and offer coupons.
Chipple said vendors will offer information about shops, restaurants, recreational activities, clubs, day-trips and other travel opportunities — “anything that is available to our soldiers and families.”
“The fairs are a one-stop shop for answers and information parents need about the school systems surrounding the installation,” said Gregory Cooke, the school liaison officer for Stewart/Hunter. “Parents will be able to get answers to questions about any grade level, such as where to register, what’s needed to enroll, before- and after-school care — that type of thing.”
He added that United Military Care representatives will give out free, age-appropriate school supplies and goods. To receive them, military families must present their ID cards and their children must be present.
The Fort Stewart CAIR and Back to School Fair is from 10 a.m.-2 p.m. Thursday at Newman Fitness Center.
