Trip to Jacksonville Zoo late this month

Leisure Travel is offering a trip to the Jacksonville Zoo on July 28, departing at 9 a.m.

Register by July 25 for the chance to come face to face with animals of South America, South Africa, Australia and Florida. The trip costs $23 for adults and $17 for children ages 3-12. The price includes transportation and admission.

Childcare space available

Childcare service is available on Fort Stewart and Hunter Army Airfield. As of July 9, available spaces at Fort Stewart were 22 pre-toddlers, 15 toddlers, 10 pre-school age, 10 pre-K and kindergarten and 40 school-age. Also, the new Youth Center on Mindoro Loop is open and ready for youth to visit.

On Hunter, childcare space available is 31 pre-toddlers, 24 pre-school age, and five school-age.

Junior Golf Academy

A Junior Golf Academy, providing youth with an opportunity to learn the game, will be from 8:30-10 a.m. July 16-20 at Taylors Creek Golf Course for golfers ages 5-17.

The academy helps juniors at all levels to improve their skills. It covers full swing, short game, course rules, etiquette and character. No previous experience is necessary and the camp is open to the public.

The cost is $100 per person. Participants are asked to bring equipment, but golf clubs will be provided for those who do not have their own.

Marne Football Camp

CYSS-registered youth, age 6-14, can learn techniques, skills and fundamentals of football during the Dog Days of the Marne Football Camp from 9 a.m.-noon July 26-28 at the Youth Sports Football Field Complex behind Stewart Youth Center.

There is no charge, but space is limited, so youth are asked to pre-register at Bryan Village Youth Sports and Fitness Center through July 25.

Racquetball Tournament

Register by July 30 for an Aug. 2-4 Racquetball Tournament at Newman Fitness Center.

The double-elimination tournament will  have men’s and women’s singles open A, B and C divisions. First game starts at 6 p.m.

First and second place medals will be awarded in all divisions.

Hunter youth soccer

Registration closes July 31 for Youth Fall Soccer on Hunter Army Airfield and the YMCA. Boys and girls ages 5-12 are eligible. Teams will be co-ed, with some games on Saturday.

There is a $20 charge. All players must wear shin guards while practicing and during games. Practice begins the third week of August.

Back-to-school dolphin watching

Start the new school year with a splash on a CYSS on the Youth Sponsorship Dolphin Watching trip to Savannah Aug. 4. Registration ends Aug. 2.

The trip is open to Stewart/Hunter CYSS-registered youth going into grades 5-12. Parents can register online or in-person at the PCS offices. Participants will depart Stewart at 9:30 a.m. and Hunter at 10:30.

There's no fee, but there is a $5 no-show or late cancellation fee after Aug. 2.

Youth football, cheerleading, soccer

Registration for youth tackle football, cheerleading and fall soccer will continue through Aug. 3. 

Registration is open to CYSS members: football 7-12 (as of Aug.1); cheerleading 6-13 (as of Dec. 31); and soccer 4-13 (Aug.1). 

Registration will be taken at Fort Stewart Parent Central Services on Gulick Avenue. Appointments may be scheduled by calling 767-2312 Monday-Thursday from 8 a.m.-5 p.m. and on Friday from 8 a.m.-noon. Walk-ins are welcome on Wednesdays, 8:30 a.m.-4 p.m. Participants also may register online at https://webtrac.mwr.army.mil/webtrac/stewartcyms.html

Children who register for sports must have a current physical on file with CYSS.

Enjoy the new Café Style Pasta Night at Thunder Run every Wednesday from 4-7:30 p.m.
