FPCA to host softball camp

First Presbyterian Christian Academy will host a softball camp for FPCA students interested in playing softball during the upcoming school year. Campers will be instructed by FPCA varsity players, parents and volunteers. All FPCA softball players are encouraged to attend this camp. The free camp will be at James Brown Park softball field, batting cages and weightlifting center. The camp will cover the fundamentals of practice routines and drills. The team’s schedule, future camps and clinics and uniform requirements will also be reviewed.
Camp is from 5-7 p.m., July 27-29. If needed, there will be a makeup/rain-out date on July 30. Georgia State University pitcher Elizabeth Kidd will be an instructor. Players should bring their own equipment and refreshments. For more information, call 877-0441.

The Mighty Eighth Air Force Museum’s Flying Fortress 5K Run

The Mighty Eighth Air Force Museum will host the inaugural Flying Fortress 5K Run at 8:30 a.m. Saturday, Nov. 6. It will benefit the restoration of the museum’s B-17 bomber.
The course begins at the Mighty Eighth Air Force Museum, winds through the nearby grounds of JCB and ends back at the museum. Registration is $25 but discounted fees are available to those who register in advance.

Football Tigers selling 2010-11 discount cards

The Bradwell Tigers football squad has 2010-11 discount cards for sale for $10. Cardholders get discounts at local restaurants, Pro Feet shoe store and Jiffy Lube. For more information, call the BI athletic office at 368-6123.

BI Lady Tigers softball

The Bradwell Lady Tigers softball team will continue conditioning for girls in grades eight through 12 from 6-7:30 p.m. on Tuesdays and Thursdays at Bradwell Field. Team tryouts will be 6 p.m. Monday, Aug. 2. Girls must have a current sports physical to participate. Session for Inspiration Cheerleading Academy

Inspiration Cheerleading Academy is hosting its final cheer session through July 31 at 719 S. Main St. The camp is from 8 a.m.-noon, with registration at 7 a.m. The fee is $75 per week. For more information, call Linda Purnell at 492-8085 or 332-5452.

Walker Middle School baseball, softball camp

Walker Wildcats baseball and softball camp for boys and girls ages 8-14 will be July 19-21. The $30 fee covers all three days and registration will be on the first morning. Camp runs from 9 a.m.-noon each day. Athletes will be instructed on fielding, hitting and pitching. Campers should bring their own bats and gloves if they have them. Proceeds benefit the WMS baseball and softball teams.

YMCA flag football

YMCA youth flag football registration is under way for children ages 3-14. The season begins Aug. 14, and volunteer coaches are needed. For more information, call Richard Somerville at 368-9622.

Panther softball tryouts

The Liberty County Panthers will host softball tryouts at 6 p.m. Aug. 2 at the school’s softball field. All participants must have a completed school physical form before they can try out. For more information, call coach Jerome Standard at 312-0331.

Inaugural Sunbury 5K run/walk is Sept. 25


Sponsors, volunteers and participants are needed for the first Sunbury 5K run/walk, set for 10 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 25. Proceeds benefit the Wounded Warrior Project and the American Diabetes Association. Registration costs $25 per person, and the race is open to all ages; however, those younger than 18 must have waivers signed by parents or guardians, according to the Active.com site.
The race starts at the Sunbury Crab Co. and the course will take participants through the neighborhoods of Sunbury. Prizes will be awarded in different age groups and all registered participants will receive T-shirts. Participants can register online at www.fleetfeetsavannah.com or www.active.com. Cat Walk submissions due

Bradwell Institute is building a “Cat Walk of Fame” featuring former BI athletes who played sports at the college level. Tiger Coach Jeff Miller and his assistants have a partial list of athletes and are gathering names and photos, but they’d like more.
To be eligible for the Cat Walk of Fame, the former athlete must have graduated from Bradwell Institute, played sports at the college level and graduated from college. SGK Baller-size sessions

SGK Baller-size workout sessions are every Sunday from 1-3 p.m. at the YMCA and every Monday and Wednesday from noon-3 p.m. at Faith Baptist Christian Academy. Sessions are led by South Georgia Kings founder and coach Jessie Fleming. The fee is $10 per session.
