Calling all
baseball players

 

If you are between the ages of 9 and 16 and interested in playing travel baseball, open tryouts will be at 11 a.m. Saturday, Jan 24, at the Liberty County baseball fields (Liberty Independent Troup Park).

Bring any equipment you’ll need to play positions you want to try out for, i.e., first base mitt, catching gear and other equipment like your bat and glove.

Basketball camp registration open

 

 

The Lady Hornets basketball team will host a spring camp for girls ages 7-15 on March 14-15. The camp will run from 10 a.m. until 2 p.m. both days at the Liberty County YMCA, 201 Mary Lou Dr., Hinesville. The campers will be drilled in fundamentals, take part in daily games, listen to lectures and go over strategy.

The ninth annual mixed teams and mixed doubles tournament is set for Jan. 10-11,17-18 and 24-25 at AMF Savannah Lanes. The cost is $30 per event.

Hockey classic Jan. 16-17

 

The Savannah Hockey Classic returns to the Savannah Civic Center on Jan. 16-17. This year’s tournament will again feature teams from the University of Georgia, University of Florida, Georgia Tech and Florida State.

On Friday, Jan. 16, Georgia Tech will take on FSU at 6 p.m. and Georgia will meet Florida at 8:30 p.m.

On Saturday, Jan. 17, FSU will take on Florida at 5:30 p.m., while Georgia and Georgia Tech will meet at 8:30 p.m.

YMCA Biggest
Loser Challenge

 

Registration will continue until Feb. 4 for the Liberty County YMCA’s new Biggest Loser Challenge.

Three six-member teams will face off to see which one loses the most weight.

The contest runs from Feb. 9 until April 9.

Workouts are set for Mondays and Wednesdays. Challenges are set for Thursdays.

The time slots available are 5:30 a.m., 9:15 am, and 6:30 p.m.

Under-18 participants must have parental permission

The cost is $100 for YMCA members, $120 for non-members. All participants must pass a health history pre-screening. Eligibility will be determined by body-fat percentage

St. James Class of Champions Tournament

Registration is underway and space is limited for the 2009 St. James Class of Champions Tournament. All games will be played at the St. James Sports Center and start at 9 a.m. Jan. 24.

There is no fee for the teams. However, teams must be in uniform and have a coach on staff. The tournament is open for boys ages 15-18. First and second place trophies will be awarded. Tournament MVP will receive a pair of Nike shoes.
