LCRD baseball

 

Registration for fall baseball and softball at the Liberty County Recreation Department runs through today. Age divisions are 7-9 machine pitch and 10-12 live pitch leagues. The age cut-off date is May 1. The games will be played in September and October. The fee is $45 per child. Volunteer coaches are needed for all teams. Liberty Hunting Club trout tournament

 

The Liberty Hunting Club is hosting a trout tournament at the Sunbury Shrimp Dock on Saturday. The fee is $100 per boat (three people). The first-place winner will receive $1,000 and the second-place winner will receive $300. There will be a captains meeting at 7 tonight at shrimp docks. Monday mixed bowling

 

Monday night mixed bowling league will have its league meeting at 6:30 p.m. Sept. 14. Bowling will begin after the meeting. For more information, call Jeff Eastlake at 369-8384 or Marne Lanes at 767-4866.

 

Saturday youth bowling

 

The Fort Stewart youth bowling will register bowlers, ages 3-18, from 9 a.m.-noon Sept. 12 at Marne Lanes. You must register that day to reserve your place on a team. The league will start Sept. 26 at 9:30 a.m. Call Jeff Eastlake at 369-8384 or Marne Lanes at 767-4866 for more information.

 

Fire dept. golf tourney

 

The first annual Hinesville Fire Department MDA Golf Tournament will be Sept. 26 at the Cherokee Rose Country Club. It will be a scramble tournament with an entry fee of $50 per player. Plenty of prizes will be given out, and proceeds will go to the Muscular Dystrophy Association. For more information on playing or on being a sponsor, call 876-4143.

 

After-school programs

 

The St. James Center is accepting registration for its free after-school program, which includes homework assistance for children enrolled in kindergarten-6th grade. Shrine Club tournament

 

It’s time for the 24th annual Hinesville/ Fort Stewart Shrine Club Golf Tournament. Registrations are being accepted for the 18-hole, four-person scramble at 8 a.m., Sept. 12, at the Cherokee Rose Country Club. The fee is $50 per person and includes cart, green fees and food. Open to men and women with prizes awarded on every hole, closest to the pin, longest putt, longest drive and the bullseye shot. Registration closes Sept. 9. Send players’ names and handicaps to:

Soccer registration

 

 

The YMCA is registering for its fall soccer program. Children ages 3-15 are eligible. Practice begins Saturday, Sept. 12. Registration ends when the teams are full. Volunteer coaches are needed. For more information, call Richard Somerville at 368-9622.

Winter bowling league
starting up

 

New bowlers and old bowlers, the winter league is starting back up. The Tuesday Night Open Bowling League will meet at at 7 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 8, at Marne Lanes. GSU football tickets on sale

 

Single game tickets for the upcoming Georgia Southern University football season are on sale. The Eagles play five regular season games at Paulson Stadium, starting Saturday, Sept. 5, against Albany, N.Y.

Tickets are $25 each and can be purchased by calling the GSU ticket office at 800-GSU-WINS or online at www.GeorgiaSouthernEagles.com. Youth tickets for each home game are also on sale for $10 each (ages 3-12). In addition to single-game tickets, season ticket packages, such as the Subway Family Plan and Coca Cola Mini Plan, also are available.

 

First annual Ricefest Golf Tournament

 

Registration is now open for the first annual Ricefest Golf Tournament, scheduled to start at 1 p.m. on Saturday, Sept. 19, at Ricefields Golf Course on Hampton Island Preserve. Fees are $300 per team or $75 per individual, which includes two free beverages. Mulligans cost $5 for two. Prizes will be awarded for the closest to the pin, longest drive and a hole-in-one. Bridge run is Dec. 5

 

The Savannah River Bridge Run is set for Dec. 5

Participants can register online at www.active.com. The entry fee is $28 for anyone who signs up before Oct. 31, and $30 for anyone who registers between Nov. 1-Dec. 3.

Runners can pick up their registration packets Friday, Dec. 4, inside the Savannah Civic Center. Participants can register during packet pick-up for $35. The entry fee includes a T-shirt and refreshments. Participants cannot register on the day of the race.

The course spans Savannah’s Talmadge Bridge, which is 1.4-miles long and has a 5.5 percent incline. It is 196 feet above the Savannah River.
