USSF referee
certification course

Hinesville Soccer will host a USSF referee entry level certification course March 21-22, at First Presbyterian Christian Academy in Hinesville. A recertification course for active referees is also being offered March 21.

Registration for Fort Stewart youth track is open to all CYS members who will be between the ages of 7-14 by Dec. 31.

Six-year-olds may participate provided they turn 7 before next Jan 1. Age groups are 7-8, 10 and under, 12 and under, and 14 and under for both boys and girls.

AAU boys tourney March 21

 

The AAU boys’ basketball First Coast Tip-off Classic tournament is March 21-22 in Jacksonville and will include age groups 10U, 11U, 12U, 13U, 14U, 15U and 16U. The tournament fee is $250 and must be paid by money order or cashier’s check. Money orders should be made payable to Coast2Coast AASU. All entries must be received on or before March 15. The tournament will follow current AAU boys basketball rules. Rosters must be submitted before playing the first game. C-Port Lady Hornets tryouts

Hinesville is now home to the C-Port Lady Hornets women's basketball team. The C-Port Hornets is one of the newest members of the Women’s Blue Chip Basketball League.

The WBCBL’s mission is to provide competitive basketball for women age 20 and older. The competition level ranges from former college players to former NWBL and WNBA players and current international players.

The C-Port Lady Hornets are currently seeking players and staff for the 2009 season. Team tryouts will be April 18 at 10:30 am at Liberty County YMCA, 201 Mary Lou Drive, Hinesville.

LCRD youth programs

The Liberty County Recreation Department is now accepting registration for youth baseball, softball and T-ball. The deadline is March 20. These programs are for boys and girls ages 4 and up. Participants must turn 4 prior to May 1.

Leagues and teams will be formed in Midway, Riceboro, Walthourville and Gum Branch. Volunteer coaches are needed for all teams. Training will be provided.

LCRD adult softball

 

The Liberty County Recreation Department will accept team entries for 2009 adult softball programs in March. Divisions for both men’s and women’s teams are open, church, co-ed (church and open), industrial and 40 and over. For additional information, call the LCRD Office at 876-5359.

 

LCRD officials needed

 

The Liberty County Recreation Department is accepting applications for officials and scorekeepers for T-ball, softball and baseball programs. All programs start in April and continue into June. St. James C.C. Rebels
tryout schedules

 

The 2009 AAU St. James Coastal Crew Rebels season is about to start and the squads will have tryouts for each squad.

Long Co. to host Aquafina, MLB: Pitch, Hit and Run
competition

 

Aquafina Major League Baseball Pitch, Hit and Run is a baseball skills competition that provides boys and girls, ages 7 to 14, the opportunity to showcase their pitching, hitting and running abilities.

PHR is intended to encourage youth participation and emphasize the fun element of baseball. All participants must begin by competing in a local competition, which is scheduled for 10 a.m. at the Long County Recreation Department on March 28.

Participants can advance through four levels of competition, including local and sectional team championship events at all 30 Major League ballparks, and the national finals at the MLB All-Star Game.

All participants must bring a copy of their birth certificates and fill out a registration / waiver form before the event. For more information call Deona Carter at (912) 977-4364.

Girls, boys AAU national
qualifier tournament

 

An AAU girls’ tournament is scheduled for March 27-29. The first games start at 5:30 p.m. on that Friday at various gyms in Jacksonville.

Girls’ registration is $325. Registration closes March 13.

The AAU boys tournament is open to ages 10-17. The boys’ tournament is scheduled for April 17-19 at various gyms in Jacksonville.

YMCA sports for children

 

Liberty County/Armed services Family YMCA has sports and activities for differently-abled kids (kindergarten through 12th grade).

The program runs most Thursdays from 4-5 p.m. and costs $10 for members and $20 others. The fee includes T-shirts for parent and child.

The focus is:

• March, baseball. Registration runs through March 12.

• April, swimming. Registration is March 8-April 9.

• May, art. Registration is April 8-May 7.

• June, gymnastic movement. Registration is May 15-June 4.

Skidaway Island State Park
to host carnival

Spend the first weekend of spring outside and see the amazing "Georgia Bubbleman" at Skidaway Island State Park’s carnival from 1-6 p.m. Saturday, March 21. Attendees also will enjoy carnival games and prizes, face painting, hayrides and pony rides, scavenger hunts, music, food, crafts to take home, reptile shows and more. Scottish Heritage
Day Encampment

Fort King George Historic Site in Darien will have a Scottish Heritage Day Encampment at 2 p.m. Saturday, March 21. The event will feature a variety of living-history demonstrations devoted to colonial and Scottish culture and a battle re-enactment. Cost is $2.50-$5. For information, call (912) 437-4770.

 

Wrestling comes to Long Co.

 

The Long County Touchdown Club will sponsor a night of wrestling at 6:30 Saturday at Long County High School.

Tickets are $5 and are available at all of the schools in the county. Proceeds will go to the Blue Tide football team.
