Girls AAU tryouts this weekend

 

The South Georgia Lady 76ers will have tryouts from 9 a.m.-1 p.m. Saturday at Midway Middle School. The tryouts are open to girls ages 10-16. The registration fee is $15 and participation forms must be completed and turned in prior to tryout session. Golf Tournament of Scholarships

 

The Liberty County Martin Luther King Jr. Association Inc. is sponsoring the 7th annual Golf Tournament of Scholarships at noon April 16 at the Cherokee Rose Country Club in Hinesville. Registration is open until April 8. The cost is $50 per player, $200 per team. All proceeds benefit academic scholarships for LCHS seniors. Door prizes and lunch will be provided for the players. Golf tournament for Relay for Life

 

SNF (Chemtall) will host a golf tournament at 12:30 p.m. Saturday, March 26, at Crosswinds Golf Club. E-mail shondiB@snfhc.com for information.

Rebels Clash of Champions

 

The Rebels Clash of Champions tournament is scheduled for Saturday and Sunday at the St. James Sports Center in Holmestown. Tip-off is at 10 a.m. Saturday. Game 1 features the Rebels’ white team against the Liberty Blazers. Game 2 will be the Rebels’ blue team against the South Georgia Kings.

Game 3 will pit South Carolina against the winner of Game 1, and the final game will feature the Georgia Stars against the winner of Game 2. Admission is $5 for adults, $2 for students.

 

Helen’s Haven benefit race

The Fraser Counseling Center will have a 5K walk/run to benefit Helen’s Haven Children’s Advocacy Center at 8 a.m. Saturday, April 2. Early registration is $25 by March 30. Late registration is $30 after March 30 until race day. Five-member teams may register for $100. Race-day registration begins at 7 a.m., and the race starts at 8 a.m. Make checks payable to: 5K Run/Walk – Helen’s Haven, 203 Mary Lou Drive, Hinesville, GA 31310. Red Shoes Run and more

The Savannah Ronald McDonald House will host the Red Shoes Run & Pop Tab Pandemonium, a 5K run/walk/stroll and pop-tab collection event, on Saturday, April 9, at the Ronald McDonald House, 4710 Waters Ave. Runners will cross a bridge twice, earning the 5K the nickname the "mini-bridge run." Strollers are welcome. The fee is $30 through March 30 and then $35 through race day. Online registration will close April 8.

 

 

Hank White Scholarships

 

Scholarship applications are available for the annual Henry ‘Hank’ White Memorial Scholarship and must be postmarked no later than April 25:

Grants available include:

• First Calvary Missionary Baptist Church senior, two $1,000 scholarships, applications at the church.

• Bradwell Institute senior, one $1,000 scholarship, applications in the guidance office.

• Liberty County High School senior, one $1,000 scholarship, applications in the guidance office.

• Active-duty military, undergraduate, one $1,000 scholarship, applications at the Liberty County Chamber of Commerce/Welcome Center at 425 W. Oglethorpe Highway and at the Fort Stewart Army Education Center at 100 Knowledge Drive Building 100.

• Community, undergraduate Liberty County resident, one $1,000 scholarship, applications at the Chamber office.

Learn hoops basics

Looking for Tigers

 

Bradwell Institute is building a "Cat Walk of Fame" featuring former BI athletes who played sports at the college level. Tigers coach Jeff Miller and his assistants have a partial list of athletes and are gathering names and photos, but they’d like more.

To be eligible for the Cat Walk of Fame, the former athlete must have graduated from Bradwell Institute, played sports at the college level and graduated from college. To submit names or photos, e-mail them to jmiller@liberty.k12.ga.us or mail them, along with a self-addressed stamped envelope for return, to:
