CYS basketball, cheerleading

 

 

Registration for Fort Stewart youth basketball and cheerleading runs through Dec. 31, or until all slots are filled. Registration is open to all CYS members living on or off post, ages 5-18 for basketball and 6-13 for cheerleading.

Register at Fort Stewart CYS, building 443 on Gulick Avenue. Hours are 8 a.m.-5 p.m. Mondays, Tuesdays, Thursdays and Fridays, and 9 a.m.-6 p.m. on Wednesdays.

Volunteers are also needed to coach teams. If interested, go to the CYS building or call 767-2312 to put your name on a coaching list. All volunteers will be required to fill out a registration form and submit to a background check.

 

BI college
recruiting speaker

 

The Bradwell Institute college recruiting class will host speaker Joe Barnes at 7:30 Monday, Nov. 16 in the school lunchroom. Barnes will speak about college recruiting and entrance requirements to anyone who is interested in playing sports in college. The event is free. For more information, call 368-6123.

LCRD basketball

 

Registration is under way at the LCRD for youth and adult basketball. Youth basketball is for Liberty County residents who turn 7 and do not turn 18 prior to Jan. 1. Cost is $15 for basketball and $10 for cheerleading. The deadline for registration is Nov. 20. A birth certificate or other age verification must be on file at LCRD for all participants. Volunteer coaches are needed for all age divisions. Adult basketball is for ages 18 and up. The entry fee is $150 per team. The deadline for entries is Dec. 4. LCRD adult flag football

Team entries are being accepted for adult flag football.This program is for ages 16 and up and the entry fee is $200 per 10-person team. It’s open to men and women. Deadline for entering is Dec. 4. Play starts in January. For more information or to enter a team, call 876-5359.

 

Liberty County Sports Hall of Fame tickets

The Liberty County Sports Hall of Fame banquet will be at 7 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 10, at Club Stewart on Fort Stewart. Tickets must be purchased in advance from Gerald DeLoach. Call him at 876-2878 or e-mail deloachg@centurytel.com. Tickets are $15.

 

Jiu-jitsu classes under way

 

 

Brazilian jiu-jitsu classes started Nov. 2. Registration is monthly for classes on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays at the YMCA. The youth class for ages 4-15 meets from 5-6 p.m. and costs $50 per month, per person. Tuition is $60 for non-members. The adult class meets from 6-7 p.m. and costs $80 per month for members and $90 for others.

Georgia Kings workouts

Georgia Southern offering
two baseball camps

 

 

STATESBORO — Georgia Southern University’s baseball program will offer two instructional camps this winter, both held at J.I. Clements Stadium. They are open to players in fifth grade through high school. The Eagles will offer a one-day fundamentals skills camp from 9 a.m.-4 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 12. The camp costs $140 per person and lunch will be provided. Every Tuesday, starting Jan. 5 and running through Feb. 2, the Eagles will offer a winter hitting league. After-school program

 

The St. James Center is accepting registration for its free after-school program, which includes homework assistance for children enrolled in kindergarten-sixth grade. Class of Champion
Tournament is Nov. 21

 

A limited number of slots are available for the upcoming Rebels Class of Champion Basketball Tournament at 10 a.m. Nov. 21 at St. James Sports Center. It is open to boys ages 15-18 and all teams must have coaches and team uniforms.

There is no fee, but space is limited. The tournament is double elimination. Trophies will be awarded for first and second place. Admission to watch games is $2.

Savannah River Bridge run
scheduled for Dec. 5

 

The Savannah River Bridge Run is set for Dec. 5.

Participants can register online at www.active.com. The entry fee is $30 for anyone who registers between Nov. 1-Dec. 3.

Runners can pick up their registration packets Friday, Dec. 4, inside the Savannah Civic Center. Participants can register during packet pick-up for $35. The entry fee includes a T-shirt and refreshments. Participants cannot register on the day of the race.

The course spans Savannah’s Talmadge Bridge, which is 1.4-miles long and has a 5.5 percent incline. It is 196 feet above the Savannah River.
