Team Hinesville needs sponsors

 

Team Hinesville’s weightlifting team is seeking donations for upcoming trips to the Pan-Am 17U Championship and the Quebec Junior Championship.

World-ranked Olympic weightlifter Jenna Bussard, coach of Team Hinesville, said participants pay their own expenses so she is always eager to accept donations to help Team Hinesville. If you would like to make a donation, call her at 429-0931.

It’s time for the 24th annual Hinesville/ Fort Stewart Shrine Club Golf Tournament. Registrations are being accepted for the 18-hole, four-person scramble at 8 a.m., Sept. 12, at the Cherokee Rose Country Club. The fee is $50 per person and includes cart, green fees and food. Open to men and women with prizes awarded on every hole, closest to the pin, longest putt, longest drive and the bullseye shot. Registration closes Sept. 9. Send players’ names and handicaps to:

Winter bowling league
starting up

 

New bowlers and old bowlers, the winter league is starting. The Tuesday Night Open Bowling League will meet at at 7 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 8, at Marne Lanes. The league will start bowling at 7 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 15. For more information, call Marne Lanes at 767-4866 or Terri Tincher at 369-4777.

 

Church seeks Christian
bowlers for league

 

Christian bowlers are needed for a church bowling league. Bowlers will meet each Thursday night at 6:45 at Marne Lanes. First meeting will be on Sept. 10. For more information call 876-4351 or Paul Hudson at 876-8768.

 

Bridge run is Dec. 5

 

The Savannah River Bridge Run is set for Dec. 5

Participants can register online at www.active.com.
The entry fee is $28 for anyone who signs up before Oct. 31, and $30 for anyone who registers between Nov. 1-Dec. 3.

Runners can pick up their registration packets Friday, Dec. 4, inside the Savannah Civic Center. Participants can register during packet pick-up for $35. The entry fee includes a T-shirt and refreshments. Participants cannot register on the day of the race.

The course spans Savannah’s Talmadge Bridge, which is 1.4-miles long and has a 5.5 percent incline. It is 196 feet above the Savannah River.

Homefront assistance

 

Operation Homefront is helping financially strapped, military families afford sports team registrations, cultural and art classes, etc., for children of Georgia service members. For more information, call Christina Anthony or Ashley Carpenter at 368-9622.

 

Soccer registration

 

 

The YMCA is registering for its fall soccer program. Children ages 3-15 are eligible. Practice begins Saturday, Sept. 12. Registration ends when the teams are full. Volunteer coaches are needed. For more information, call Richard Somerville at 368-9622.

 

After-school program

 

The St. James Center is accepting registration for its free after-school program, which includes homework assistance for children enrolled in kindergarten-6th grade. First annual Ricefest
Golf Tournament

 

Registration is open for the first annual Ricefest Golf Tournament, scheduled to start at 1 p.m. on Saturday, Sept. 19, at Ricefields Golf Course on Hampton Island Preserve. Fees are $300 per team or $75 per individual, which includes two beverages. Mulligans cost $5 for two. Prizes will be awarded for the closest to the pin, longest drive and a hole-in-one. Hinesville Hurricanes football team seeks help with costs

 

The Hinesville Hurricanes semi-pro football team has made the Southern Conference playoffs and will head to Columbia, S.C., on Sept. 12 to play in the Southern Conference title game. The team is looking for sponsors to help with transportation and travel fees for the game. Anyone interested in assisting the hometown squad can call coach James Sharp at 269-0830.

 

GSU football tickets on sale

 

Single game tickets for the upcoming Georgia Southern University football season are on sale. The Eagles play five regular season games at Paulson Stadium.

Tickets are $25 each and can be purchased by calling the GSU ticket office at 800-GSU-WINS or online at www.GeorgiaSouthernEagles.com. Youth tickets for each home game are also on sale for $10 each (ages 3-12). In addition to single-game tickets, season ticket packages also are available.
