STATESBORO — The Georgia Southern Eagles finished third in the final Football Championship Subdivision polls, which were announced Monday afternoon.
The Eagles, who made the semifinals for the third straight year, were third in the Sports Network FCS Poll and the FCS Coaches Poll. GSU was ranked sixth and seventh, respectively, in the previous poll released before the start of the playoffs. The Eagles were ranked behind the FCS finalists, North Dakota State and Sam Houston State, in both final polls.
GSU was one of three Southern Conference teams selected to the two polls. Wofford finished seventh in both polls, while Appalachian State fell to eighth in the coaches poll and ninth in the Sports Network poll.
The Eagles reached as high as No. 1 in the FCS Coaches Poll after opening the season ranked third.
GSU finished the 2012 season with a 10-4 overall record and a 6-2 mark in the Southern Conference, which secured a share of the league championship with Wofford and Appalachian State.
