SAVANNAH — Organizers of Savannah’s inaugural Rock ‘n’ Roll Marathon say they may have to limit how many runners can compete in the race after more than 15,000 have already registered.
There are still months to go before the Nov. 5 event. But Joe Marinelli of Savannah’s visitor bureau says the number of runners signing up already exceeded predictions of no more than 12,000.
The Competitor Group, the marathon’s organizer, is consulting with Savannah police about whether they need to cap how many people can enter.
Rock ‘n’ Roll marathons are typically held in larger cities than Savannah. The event features rock bands playing along the marathon’s 26.2-mile route.
Hotels in the Savannah area are reporting solid bookings around the race.
