Registration fees

• Regular registration: $60 for profit organizations.
Nonprofit registration: $40 ($20 for each additional unit).
• Late regsitration: $70 for all ($25 for each additional unit).
According to Liberty County Chamber of Commerce Executive Director Kenny Smiley, the area’s 13th annual illuminated Christmas parade will change locations and routes this year.
Friday is the deadline to register a float in the event and late registration begins Monday with a fee increase.
Smiley said this year’s theme is “Christmas on the Coast.”
“We feel like living on the coast is a gem for us and why not tap into that,” he said.
He said floats can vary from a reindeer pulling a jet ski to a float made of palm trees.
“It’s definitely one of our biggest events. It’s one of the moments we really enjoy, kicking off holiday season for Liberty County residents,” Smiley said. He estimates that last year there were 12,000-15,000 people lining the streets to watch the parade. About 40 floats were entered.
The chamber will give awards to first- and second-place winners for the school, business and nonprofit categories
Mary Baggs will be the parade’s grand marshal and there will be three honorary grand marshalls, including chamber business leader of the year, the late Don Carter, civic leader of year, Dave Sapp of Liberty County Solid Waste, and a military member of the year, who hasn’t been chosen yet.
Applications are available at the Liberty County Chamber of Commerce building. The parade will be televised on WTOC and Liberty County’s Dawn Baker will provide commentary.
For more information, call the chamber at 368-4445 or e-mail Debbie@libertycounty.org.
The parade begins at 6:30 p.m. Friday, Dec. 4.
