Toys for Tots, the Marine Corps Reserves national charity drive, is back in Liberty County this holiday season with EXIT Team Realty spearheading the local effort to bring Christmas gifts to less fortunate children.
Donations for children from infants to 12 years are steadily coming in, but the deadline for families needing assistance is Friday.
More than 250 children have already been signed up, and Toys for Tots local coordinator Angela Powell, said the agency is just looking to help as many as possible.
EXIT Team Realty has been leading the event since 2004, with Powell as the Toys for Tots coordinator for almost 10 years running.
Powell said she just wants to help others and give back to the community.
“Knowing that we can help a family that is in need, make their holiday a little brighter, means the world to me,” Powell said. “Seeing the families come in that need our help and knowing that we can help them is what the spirit of Christmas is all about.”
But it is going to take local support.
“The collections are slower, and I hope they will pick up,” Powell said.
Realty agents and staff already have volunteered to distribute toys, but other volunteers are welcome.
And any family who misses Friday’s application deadline may still be able to get help.
“We will do our best to help everyone up to Christmas Day,” Powell said.
There are 15 toy donation drop-off sites around town, including the Heritage Bank and the Hinesville Police Department.
Toy distribution will be from 10 a.m.-4 p.m. Dec. 8-19 at the Exit Team Realty office.
