The scripture tells us in Matthew 2, "After Jesus was born in Bethlehem in Judea, wise men from the east came to Jerusalem and asked, ‘Where is the one who has been born king of the Jews? We saw his star in the east and have come to worship him.’"

In other words, the star was guiding them to this new Savior of the world.

After Jesus started his ministry on earth, a star was no longer needed to direct people to him. His love, caring spirit and hands-on ministry attracted them, which led to his good reputation.

This is why he was able to say in John 9:5, "While I am in the world, I am the light of the world."

Jesus knew that he was here for a time and then he would leave this world and go back to the Father in heaven. He left with a plan for the world to be able to still see a light that would attract them to the Savior; attract them to himself.

His plan is that we as his followers are to be that light. This is why he told his disciples in Matthew 5:14, "You are the light of the world."

We as his followers today must take on the responsibility as the ones to make Christianity attractive. In this world that is searching for hope, we have the message of hope.

So let’s practice what the old Christmas song compels us to do when it says, "Go tell it on the mountains, over the hills and everywhere. Go tell it on the mountains, that Jesus Christ is born."
