So many times we hear about teamwork and partnership.
God said in Genesis it is not good for man to be alone. In Ecclesiastes 4:9-10, we find some reasons for this. “Two are better than one; because they have a good reward for their labour. For if they fall, the one will lift up his fellow: but woe to him that is alone when he falleth; for he hath not another to help him up.”
Here we see the cornerstone to partnership and teamwork — I help you and you help me because we have a common goal or reward.
As we look around us today, we see many examples of this, from marriages to business partnerships. The results are: individual strengths are multiplies, knowledge increased, visions strengthened, physical and mental capabilities increased. With all these benefits and rewards one may ask, what's my role?
God has a purpose/goal/role for everyone. Your role could be a leader, a helper, a supporter/member or a coach, but everyone has a different role.
The key point is everyone can't be the leader, pastor or the boss. When we are not in our proper role, we have problems, things don’t flow properly and we lose the vision.
God decides who the leader is and who is in the support role. Let’s look at an example of this. If I am a boxer, my partner is my coach and we both have different skills, knowledge and abilities that complement the team. When it’s fight time, you don't find my coach in the ring fighting my fight. That’s not his role. He may get hurt. His role is to be outside the ring to observe the fight and advise me and give me information and strategies to win. If I get knocked down, his job is to encourage me to get back up and win the fight. When the boxer wins, they both win.
Even though the boxer’s picture and name is in the newspaper, a good coach knows his/her role and knows it took them both to win. Notice the coach does not get out of his/her role and that is the most important lesson to learn.
The coach cannot be the fighter and the fighter cannot be the coach at the same time. Identify your role, study your role and be the best in your role, because we both want the same reward.
