Communication is considered by many to be one of the most important elements of a relationship. Failure to communicate usually ends up being disastrous to a marriage.
Recently “Headline News” ran a story that has become a YouTube hit. The video clip features two baby boys, wearing nothing but diapers, standing by a refrigerator in a kitchen. The little boys appear to be only a few months old. They’re unable to speak or form words; however, the actions and mannerisms they display give the impression they’re having a lengthy conversation in “baby talk.” Millions of people have been laughing and watching as what once was thought to be impossible — two babies “talking” — takes place right before their eyes.
When communication is done right, it can be a beautiful thing. God desires for us to communicate with Him on a continual basis. Our prayer lives are the central elements in our relationships with God. Prayer has been defined as a solemn request for help or an expression of thanks addressed to God. The word pray is mentioned more than 400 times in the Bible. In fact, God reminded Solomon in 2 Chronicles 7:14, that when troublesome things begin to happen, “people, which are called by my name, shall humble themselves, and pray, and seek my face, and turn from their wicked ways; then will I hear from heaven, and will forgive their sin, and will heal their land.”
We see leaders fighting over birth certificates, oil companies making billions of dollars while people struggle to get to and from work, storms destroying whole towns and bills increasing while salaries decrease. As we look around the nation and see the overall condition of our land, we feel helpless and sometimes wonder how we can make a difference. Well, the Bible says to pray.
At 11:30 a.m. this Thursday, May 5, pastors, teachers, students, public officials and citizens from throughout this county will gather on the steps of the old Liberty County Courthouse. They won’t argue, protest or debate issues — they’ll pray. Join us as we pray for our nation, our community, our military and our children. James 5:16 says that the earnest prayer of a righteous person has great power and produces wonderful results. This is the time for Liberty County to communicate through prayer with our God.
