Gullah/Geechee unity on River Street
Gullah Unity event

SAVANNAH - "Unity in the Community" collaborated with the "Gullah/Geechee Sea Island Coalition" in order to host "Gullah/Geechee Unity in the Community" on Saturday, Sept. 17 and Sunday, Sept. 18 on River Street in Savannah.  The event is free and begins at 11 a.m. on both days.

Queen Quet, Chieftess of the Gullah/Geechee Nation (www.QueenQuet.com) will open the event at noon on Saturday.  She will sign books, CDs, and DVDs about the Gullah/Geechee Nation's history throughout the event.  Savannah's own, Dr. Amir Jamal Toure of "Dayclean Journeys" will not only lead tours of the historic city throughout the weekend, he will also present on stage on Saturday.  

Other featured presenters for Saturday include Abu Drummers and Dancers, sweetgrass makers, Gregory Grant and Anastatia Ketchens, Wose Adande Drummers and Dancers and Gullah/Geechee healers Khetnu Nefer of "A Soulful Touch Wellness" and Tremaine Abeena Moore of "Naturally Geechee."  Sunday will feature the music of Motown.

 The City of Savannah will welcome the host of the event during their city council meeting on Thursday, September 15th at 2 pm.  "Unity in the Community" looks forward to welcoming everyone to SAV!
