Legion post installs first woman commander

Hinesville American Legion Post 168 installed officers for the new year on July 28.
Denise Simpson was installed as post commander, the first woman in the post’s history.
Other newly installed officers include Senior Vice Commander Roy Owens, Junior Vice Commanders Joseph Stuart, Deborah Herrera, Earl Coolman and Jay Yarbrough. The post’s new finance officer is Ken Dawson with post adjutant John Seward and chaplian Richard Russell continuing in their positions.
The post auxiliary also installed officers, including President Annaliese Knapp and Vice President Olla Wood.
The post is on Highway 84 west and meets each fourth Tuesday at 7 p.m. All eligible veterans and their spouses are invited.
