BRUNSWICK — The Southeast Georgia Health System Auxiliaries recently named Elena “Lea” Taylor and Pearl Sophia Stephen as the volunteers of the quarter at the Brunswick and Camden campuses, respectively, during their quarterly auxiliary luncheons.
Taylor, a retired teacher, has been a member of the Brunswick Campus Auxiliary for more than 18 years.
“I volunteer because I really enjoy helping people,” Taylor said. “I taught for 31 years before I retired, and my goal is to reach 31 years as a volunteer.”
She currently volunteers in the emergency care center.
“Lea is one of our long-term, valued volunteers,” said Kristin Doll, director of volunteer services. “She consistently serves others with a gentle smile and great compassion.”
Taylor, a Brunswick resident, previously volunteered for the American Red Cross. When not volunteering, she enjoys biking, walking, fishing, traveling and square dancing.
Meanwhile, Stephen, a Kingsland resident and member of the auxiliary for just over a year, volunteers in the Camden campus gift shop.
“I love volunteering in the gift shop,” Stephen said. “I have been in retail since I was 16 years old and love to help customers find something special. It’s all about making the customer happy.”
Doll talked about Stephen’s positive contributions to the gift shop.
“Pearl’s big smile and helpful attitude are just two of her wonderful attributes that our gift shop customers experience,” Doll said. “She always offers her assistance and suggestions to help customers find something special.”
Stephen also volunteers with the Biology Club at the Camden Campus of College of Coastal Georgia. Her hobbies include reading, being outdoors and cooking for company.
More than 300 volunteers currently share their time and talents to assist patients, visitors and team members at the Southeast Georgia Health System Brunswick and Camden campuses, as well as the senior care centers in Brunswick and St. Marys.
