Wayne Memorial, St. Josephs bring cardiologist to the area
Gary Stern

JESUP — Wayne/St. Joseph’s/Candler Medical Group recently secured the services of cardiologist Dr. Gary Stern for the Jesup and Southeast Georgia areas.
Stern hails from Buffalo, New York, where he works in a private-practice cardiology group. His office will open in the Jesup area Sept. 29.
“The addition of Dr. Stern to our team of physicians is great news for our citizens, as we start this new cardiology service line full-time for the first time in Jesup. Having another specialty practice here locally that our partnership with St. Joseph’s/Candler provides saves a trip out of town for a doctor’s appointment that patients currently have to make,” Wayne Memorial CEO Joe Ierardi said.
St. Joseph’s/Candler President and CEO Paul P. Hinchey said his organization is happy to contribute to area residents’ health and wellness.
“Bringing highly skilled specialists to Wayne County is part of our ongoing commitment to the residents of this community. Through our partnership with Wayne Memorial Hospital, we are not only able to provide access to cardiologists like Dr. Stern, but we are able to ensure that patients have the best services available locally through Wayne Memorial Hospital or through St. Joseph’s/Candler if more extensive services are required,” he said.
Stern is board-certified by the American Board of Internal Medicine in cardiology, critical-care medicine and internal medicine. He also is certified in nuclear cardiology. Additionally, he is a Fellow of the American College of Cardiology and Fellow of the American College of Chest Physicians.
After graduating with honors from Western Maryland College, Stern earned his medical degree from the University of Maryland’s School of Medicine in Baltimore, Maryland. He completed an internal medicine and critical care residency at North Shore University Hospital in Manhassett, New York.
As a cardiologist, Stern has specialized experience in cardiovascular disease, cardiac catheterization, critical-care medicine and nuclear cardiology. Stern and his wife, Lisa, will relocate to the area with their two children. Stern enjoys tennis, skiing, swimming, music, exercise and travel.
