The Liberty County Community & Area Mass Choir, comprised of members from Liberty County and surrounding areas, has kicked off its 2009 season with excellent participation and enthusiasm.
The 2009 concert season runs from Oct. 1 through next September and will consist of six performances.
The choir was formed in 2003 and continues to grow immensely as the focus of the group is to provide music for the community. Since its inception, the choir has performed for various occasions both in Hinesville and on Fort Stewart.
The Mass Choir has now expanded its program for singers and musicians in the area to include an ensemble, quarter, trio, soloist, instrumentalist and community chorus that will represent the Mass Choir at special programs such as the Warrior’s Walk ceremonies, Christmas tree lighting and others.
The group is preparing music for the Mayor’s annual Thanksgiving service, which has become a festive and joyful time for the entire community.
Singers from around the area now have an opportunity to participate in these programs by joining the rehearsals on Tuesday evenings at 7 at the Brewton-Parker auditorium in Flemington. Singers and instrumentalist are invited to participate in concerts by contacting Ronald Calhoun, director, at 977-3322, or Judy Forshee, assistant director at 977-5918.
The Choir operates under Georgia’s classification as a non-profit organization. The board of directors includes Calhoun, founder and conductor, Forshee, Frances Moody, Pat Kicklighter, Eleanor Hudson, Virie Walton and Mary Montoya.
