Altie Moody was just a girl when Pembroke was chartered in 1905.

Monday, Pembroke City Council honored Moody with a resolution in honor of her upcoming birthday and named her grand marshal of the city’s Christmas Parade in December.

Moody, who attended, will be 103 next Tuesday.

Pembroke Mayor Mary Warnell read the resolution, which began by noting Moody was born Altie Mack on Sept. 23, 1911, “to Dan and Katie Mack and from this union 4 children were born, 2 girls and 2 boys, and of which Mrs. Altie Moody is the only surviving sibling.”

She married Robert Moody in September 1928, the proclamation said, and, “From this union, 4 children were born Mae Catherine Henry of Savannah, Georgia, Nettie Louise Carroll of Pembroke, now deceased, Pearl Johnson of Philadelphia, (Pennsylvania) now deceased, and Daniel Moody of Pembroke, Georgia.”

The resolution further states “Mrs. Moody attended the Ogeechee Health Department where she received a certificate in ‘Care Giving’ and put this education into action by caring for many seniors in our community….”

The city’s resolution also notes Moody “is a faithful member of Jerusalem Missionary Baptist Church in Groveland, Georgia, which she faithfully attends. She currently is the oldest member of the church and in 1993 was honored by being named ‘Mother of the Church….’”

The resolution continued by stating “Mrs. Altie Moody is known as a thoughtful, loving, beautiful lady with a kind hearted personality who has touched the hearts of many generations and thousands of diverse people throughout her lifetime….”

The measure also said Moody “has a great legacy of seven generations of children and grandchildren,” and ended: “Now, therefore, be it resolved that on this 15th day of September 2014, I, Mary V. Warnell, Mayor of the City of Pembroke, along with the City Council, honor Mrs. Altie Mack Moody for 103 years of faithful service to her God, her family, her city and her country and encourage others to follow her fine example.”
