Scuba lessons offered this month
Weekly FMWR briefing for March 10-16

Learn to scuba dive with BOSS and First Coast Divers of Jacksonville March 21-23.

Classroom training will be at Stewart Education Center March 21 and dives will be March 22-23 at Florida Freshwater Springs in Jacksonville.

The $445 per person cost includes materials, gear, trip to Jacksonville, hotel stay and two lunches.

Bass tournament

A Catch and Release Bass Tournament will begin at 6:30 a.m. March 15 at Pineview Lake on Fort Stewart.

Prizes are $250 for first-place and $100 for the largest bass.

Anglers can fish from the bank or launch a boat (trolling motors only). No live bait will be permitted. Boat rentals will be available at Holbrook Equipment Center to military ID cardholders who hold boat safety certificates.

Participants must have state and Stewart/Hunter fishing permits, unless 15 or younger.

The tournament is open to everyone, event civilians. Registration will be accepted on-site at $30 for soldiers, family members and retirees, and $40 for civilians.

CG's Golf Scramble

Play in Maj. Gen. Mike Murray’s four-person scramble March 28 at Hunter Golf Course. It starts at noon.

The $35 per person cost covers golf cart, driving range and prizes. Players are asked to register by March 27.

Color run

Register now for the Extreme Color Run April 5 at Holbrook Outdoor Recreation Area.

The untimed event will take runners approximately five kilometers through Holbrook’s campground and tank trails. Runners will be “colored” as they pass stations along the route. The run begins at 9 a.m.

Volunteers are needed. To volunteer, or for more information, call 767-6212.

The run costs $20 per person until March 24, and then $30 through race day.

 

Lt. Dan Band concert

Gary Sinise and the Lt. Dan Band will be in concert at 5 p.m. April 6 on Donovan Field.

The free concert is presented by the USO and the Gary Sinise Foundation. Bring your own seating, if desired.

Pets, smoking, grills, coolers, glass bottles and weapons are prohibited. Vendors will be on-site.

 

Volleyball league

Companies can prove who prove which has the best volleyball team on Fort Stewart and Hunter. To join league play, companies should submit a memo to the Bennett Sports Complex on Stewart or Squires Sports Complex at Hunter. Register by March 31.

Play begins April 7, with games at 6:30 and 7:30 p.m. at Newman and Tominac fitness centers. For more information, call 767-8238 or 315-4160.

 

Course on reintegration

Register now to attend a one-day course: “The Journey from ‘Welcome Home’ to Now: Reunion, Reconnecting, Routine.”

Space is limited at The Military Child Education Coalition course from 8 a.m.-4 p.m. March 28 at the Liberty County College and Career Academy.

Professionals who support military-connected youth will learn about the challenges and joys children face during reintegration following a family member’s return after an extended absence. Participants will learn strategies to help students adjust.

There is no cost.

Power lifting

“The Rock” Power Lifting and Bench Press Competition is set for April 12 Newman Fitness Center. Weigh-in begins at 8:30 a.m. and the competition at 10:15 a.m.

Contestants will be placed into weight classes and must complete a bench press to qualify for an award.

Awards will be presented to the top lifters.

Registration costs $10 until March 28 and then goes up to $15.

Post-wide garage sale

Registration has begun for the Great FMWR Post-Wide Housing Garage Sale, from 8 a.m.-2 p.m. April 12 at Fort Stewart and Hunter.

There is no charge to sell. Registration ensures your site is listed on a map.

Only residents of post housing are eligible to sell, but everyone, including civilians, is invited to shop.

Residents interested in selling should call the Stewart Sports Office at 767-8238 or Hunter’s Tominac Fitness Center at 315-5078.

 

Babysitting course 

Teens can become certified babysitters at the SKIES CYSSitters Teenage Babysitter Course 9:30 a.m.-5 p.m. April 14 and 15.

The free course will be held at SKIES Unlimited on Davis Avenue. Participants must attend both days to become certified.

Register at CYSS Parent Central Services. The course also will also be offered May 10-17, June 16- 17 and July 14-15.

Managed hog hunt

Soldiers and retirees, along with Gold Star Family members (12 and older) and Purple Heart recipients, can register now for a managed hog hunt April 19 at Stewart.

Register at Stewart or Hunter Pass and Permit offices by March 31.

Participants will be chosen by lottery April 2. Cost is $10 per person, if selected.

Steve Nichols and Trey Wetherington of the Huntin' is Good! TV show will make an appearance.

Bahamas cruise

Sail aboard the Carnival Fascination on a 5-day Bahamas Cruise Oct. 11-16, with stops at Nassau and Half Moon Cay.

Registration deadline is April 15. 

An inside room is $329.52 per person. An ocean view cabin is $379.52. The price does not include gratuity or transportation.  

A payment schedule available is $25 by April 15, $200 by June 12, and final payment by Aug.10.

Trace Adkins will perform in Nassau. Concert tickets are not part of cruise price, but can be purchased through Carnival.
