Here are some of the issues that area residents are discussing. The statements were phoned in anonymously, so the Courier does not vouch for their veracity, nor do we know what motivated the callers:

This concerns the Midway police shutting down a lemonade stand. Kids have been doing this for as long as I can remember — almost 70 years. Why not go out and try to find a few people who are stealing stuff and see if you can do something about that instead of trying to keep kids from having initiative? Kids need to be encouraged to have initiative.

I would like for somebody to tell me why the Midway police cannot catch bank robbers but they can harass little girls trying to make money for a trip to Splash in the ’Boro Waterpark. This is getting to be a socialist city.

Put up the lemonade stand. Put up a lot of lemonade stands and give away the lemonade, and let’s see what they’ll do. We need new city council and new people in this Midway government.

Why does a small town like Midway need a police department here when we have the county sheriff’s office? It’s just extra taxes and money.

Are the Midway police going to go to every yard sale on the weekend, because sometimes the children sell a few doughnuts and a little coffee? Are they going to cut them out, too — the yard sales?

Kudos to the Midway Police Department. Wow, what a wonderful bust — a little girl’s lemonade stand. How pathetic can you be? You really should be ashamed of yourselves.
