Here are some of the issues that area residents are discussing. The statements were phoned in anonymously, so the Courier does not vouch for their veracity, nor do we know what motivated the callers:

True love is when your husband loves you or your wife loves you after 30 years, after you’ve gained weight, your hair has turned gray, you’ve got a few wrinkles — that is true love. When they look at you with love in their eyes and they don’t see the gray hair, the wrinkles, the weight gain — all they see is you because they love you. That is true love.

I work the graveyard shift at one of the 24-hour convenience stores in Midway. The last two years, we have been robbed four times. Getaway cars, guns and Tasers. Midway police officers are needed and appreciated. Thumbs up, guys. Chief, your officers have enough to do. Leave the lemonade stands alone. Trust me, there are bigger fish to fry.

People, don’t get excited about the gas prices going down because it’s like a roller coaster. It’s going to continue to go up and down. So just get used to it. Don’t get excited about it. We’ll just have to deal with it.

The president is making the wrong statement when he said that our Social Security checks might not come and things like that. I’ll tell you one thing, if they don’t come after we’ve paid into it all these years, the people will be in the streets and you sure won’t go back in
office.
